Biography and Experience

• |
Kalindi Handler received her BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA in English Education from Teachers College at Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Writing, City College of New York, and CUNY. She won the Tony Kushner Award for Writing in 2006 and has been published in periodicals such as “A” Magazine: Inside Asian America and The Bellevue Literary Review.

She has taught middle school (grades 6,7,8) at The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine in New York City, The Peck School in Morristown New Jersey, and Prep for Prep, an academic prep program for gifted minority students in New York City.

For the last five years, she been an adjunct lecturer at The City College of New York, where she has taught courses in Freshman Composition, Writing for the Humanities and Victorian Literature, amongst others.

She developed and implemented a new curriculum in conjunction with the English Department and the Grove School of Engineering (at City College), designing the course to meet the changing needs in critical writing, reading and presentation skills of the engineering students in Writing for Engineers (English Composition 210).

She created and implemented an intensive summer course in Critical Reading and Writing, for STEM, a program for gifted New York City public schools such as Stuyvesant and Bronx Science. STEM is run by The Grove School of Engineering at The City College of New York. Ms. Handler has also tutored privately for many years.
